Nasal Moisturizing Products

When high volume of saline delivered by a nasal irrigation system is not needed to rinse the nasal cavity (for instance, after sinus surgery or as prevention of sinusitis or allergies) or tolerated by some patients, there are other moisturizing nasal products. Some are sprays that can deliver isotonic or hypertonic saline, with and without additives. Some are saline ointments that are more localized and long-lasting effect (for example, useful in prevention of nose bleeds).

Nasal Saline Sprays

Isotonic saline nonprescription nasal sprays

Useful for moisturizing the nose. Many nonprescription products are available.
Common commercial product names: Ocean®, Ayr® and Entsol® Cost should be less than $10.

Some products have unique delivery systems:  NeilMed Nasal Mist

Saline nasal sprays with additives

NozAmi
NōzAmi consists of 100% pure, odorless, pharmaceutical-grade Sesame oil. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC OR HYPERSENSITIVE TO SESAME PRODUCTS.

In randomized crossover studies, the relief of nasal mucosa dryness and its associated discomforts were 3-4 times greater with sesame oil than with isotonic saline solution.

The nose’s natural transport mechanism distributes a thin film of sesame oil with its natural antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory components throughout the nasal cavity. Although the full therapeutic effect is generally achieved in 4-7 days, an initial level of soothing relief from dry, crusty, irritated mucosa the can be felt almost immediately. Daily use over a period of 7-14 days permits the natural moisture balance of your nasal cavity to re-establish itself.

Nasal Saline Gels

The advantage of saline gel products are that they last longer than a saline spray.

They help moisturize and sooth dry, sore nasal passages due to low humidity (winter dryness), colds, allergies, CPAP, flying, pregnancy and oxygen therapy. Nasal saline gels are useful in prevention of nose bleeds.

Nasal saline gels may be placed in nostrils with a Q-tip or fingertip as often as wanted.. Use during the day and at bedtime to prevent drying and crusting .
