Weed Allergies |
|||
Ragweed AllergyIn late summer, 10-20% of people begin to suffer from ragweed allergy, or hay fever. Ragweeds are weeds that grow throughout the U.S. Each plant produces up to a billion pollen grains. After midsummer, ragweed flowers mature and release pollen, particularly in the morning. The pollens are carried by wind and, when inhaled, begin the allergic reaction.Ragweed has the reputation that it has because 75% of people who are allergic to pollen-producing plants are allergic to this plant. Ragweed belongs to a larger family of weeds (Compositae) which includes sage and mugwort. Keep in mind that insects can also transport pollens and that honey can cause allergic reactions because the honeybees have concentrated the pollens in this product. |
